lil-craic asked:

What made you pick Hofstra? I want to go into PR as well and I will be applying to Hofstra but what makes it better than other options? If you don't mind my asking, what were your other options?

Oh great! Are you about to finish high school or are you thinking about transferring?

Honestly, it took me awhile to make the decision but I think I made the right one in the end. At my current school, I wasn’t studying what I wanted to study and I wasn’t getting the resources and opportunities either. That’s when I started to research PR programs. I found Hofstra and started to look into it and its programs. It has a great PR program and with it being so close to the city, there are endless opportunities for internships and new experiences. Also, I love the fact that I’m not living in the city but still close enough for all the advantages. I get that homey feel and the city. Plus, it is a medium sized school, not too overwhelming and not too small. The school also has great extracurriculars specifically for PR. My current school doesn’t even have half of what Hofstra has! It all depends on what you are looking for with your academics and activities. The school has great connections to the city, which help students get internships. There are students at Hofstra who intern at the most prestigious companies.

I started to look for schools where I could actually study PR and then schools near a place where I could get internships. My other options where Chapman University, University of Southern California and Penn State. I chose Hofstra because each one of these universities had cons that made the school not worth going to. Penn State is way too big. USB is also big but I didn’t see as much opportunity here that was worth transferring for. Also, Hofstra is very open to transfer applications! They love to accept transfer students where most schools accept a very low amount.

Hope I helped somewhat! :)

Small Girls PR Feature - Wix Stories
Website building platform, Wix, recently featured us in one of their Wix Stories - sharing users’ experiences behind their website.
When Mallory and Bianca first started Small Girls PR, they were very lucky and grateful to have boyfriends who supported them in their new venture by designing and building the first version of our site.  As you can imagine, after those relationships ended, updating and maintaining the site proved a little more difficult (though they’re still SGPR BFFs!). So while the business grew and more and more changes needed to be made on a regular basis, they had to find away to cut the middle(ex)men out and take it in-house, without starting from scratch or sacrificing the original design.
Using Wix, Bianca was able to essentially recreate the SGPR site by customizing one of Wix’s existing themes. Watch our founders Mallory and Bianca chat from Small Girls PR HQ about how essential Wix has been to our business by letting us take website building into our own hands (and away from ex-boyfriends).

My Dorm Decor by sarah-abuharaz featuring a map globe

Since this is my first time moving away, I’m pretty excited about how I’m going to design my dorm space. I started off looking for a comforter so I could center my decor around that. Originally, I found a comforter on Urban Outfitters that I absolutely loved! Of course, me being me, I waited a few days to get opinions from family and friends. After all that, I decided to just go ahead and buy it and it was SOLD OUT!!! I was so devastated. I wanted to go with this whole Moroccan theme and it was the perfect bedding for it.

Fortunately, everything turn out for the better. Even though, I’m not going with my original idea of a Moroccan theme, I found something that I can work with and absolutely love! After days of searching, I found a bedding from Bed, Bath, and Beyond. It’s a European style bedding made by Anthology which is shown above in the set. I’m not a lover a blue, I actually try to steer away from it, but why not try something different?!

So now it’s time for the fun part, the decor! When I bought the bedding I had no idea how I was going to have the rest of the room look like. Searching Modcloth, Urban Outfitters, Etsy, and plenty more, I found some items that will make this room beautiful.

Everything in the set above is what I plan on buying for the dorm. I imagine it to have flowers everywhere! Artificial ones of course. I got a summer job at a local floral shop and grew a new love for flowers and plants! On Etsy, people sell mason jars of all designs and sizes. They’re stunning! I decided to get the vintage looking painted jars. Since it’s a European style, I definitely wanted a world map. But this world map isn’t just any world map, it’s also a dry erase board! A 2 in 1 kinda thing! On Pinterest, there are a lot of dorm decor DIY’s. My favorite one was the string of pictures. It’s much more fun than just pasting them onto the wall. I plan to string some polaroid pics from my farewell party in August.

I would love to hear your ideas on dorm decor!

DKNY Ramadan

image

Since it may be the last day of Ramadan, I wanted to discuss a major fashion moment of 2014. DKNY recently released a collection called DKNY Ramadan. Ramadan is the Holy Month for Muslims when they fast from sunrise to sunset. One of the main aspects of this religion is modesty. This collection is the first of its kind. DKNY is the first major fashion company to create clothing revolving around the views of Muslims. I thought this was pretty dang cool!

These pieces are so beautiful too! Putting together high fashion and modesty turned out to be out of this world. From long, flowing dresses to statement colors and prints, this collection could be for anyone really! To see fashion accepting other cultures and religions is going to do a lot for the fashion world. I’m excited to see what else is in store.

It’s unfortunate that this collection isn’t being sold in the US. I was planning to do MAJOR splurging!!
